Further fleet expansion for Trasmapi

Spanish ferry operator Trasmapi is further spreading its wings in the Balearic Islands trade following the acquisition of Condor Ferries’ 1997-built CONDOR RAPIDE. The Incat 86m wave piercing catamaran is already on its way to Spain where it will join Trasmapi’s seven-ship fleet.

Virgin Voyages took delivery of its second cruise ship, VALIANT LADY, on Thursday 1 July. This milestone was followed by the floating out of RESILIENT LADY – the third vessel in the four-ship Virgin Voyages series – from Fincantieri’s Sestri Ponente, Genoa shipyard on Friday 2 July.

Foreship-conceived Spirit of Tasmania ferries given go-ahead for construction

Tasmania-based TT-Line Company Pty Ltd has signed a contract with Finnish shipyard Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) for the delivery of two new car and passenger ferries conceived by leading naval architecture and marine engineering firm Foreship Ltd. The agreement has been finalised following approval from the Tasmanian Government, with construction set to begin in spring 2022.

The Cruise Division of MSC Group and Fincantieri announced the signing of a contract for the construction by Fincantieri Infrastructure Florida of a new mega cruise terminal at PortMiami, the cruise industry’s hub in North America and the Caribbean.

Fjord1 contracts NES for ferry conversions and charging stations

Norwegian ferry operator Fjord1 has contracted Norwegian Electric Systems AS (NES) to act as system integrator and deliver power control, distribution and battery systems to three ferries that will be converted from gas and diesel propulsion to zero emission battery operation.

More orders in Norway for Cavotec's next generation vacuum mooring system

Cavotec has been awarded an order for its next generation vacuum mooring technology, MoorMaster™ NxG, from leading Norwegian ferry operator Fjord 1. The new systems will be used with a new-build, zero-emission vessel to reduce energy consumption in port. The customer has also signed a long-term service agreement for the operator’s existing MoorMaster vacuum mooring systems and e-vessel charging units.

elkon - ISTANBUL – The European Commission and the Waterborne Technology Platform have established Co-Programmed Partnership to promote cleaner sea in the EU and worldwide for future generations.

Elkon, marine electric system integrator based in Istanbul and Norway, has become the first and only engineering company from Turkey to attend this partnership to accelerate the decarbonization of maritime and minimize all environmental emissions in order to prevent pollution in the seas. elkon is also making an important contribution through reducing carbon emissions with adapting its technology in full electric vessels.

Wärtsilä Navigational Simulator becomes first Interactive ‘instructor-led’ cloud training solution to gain new DNV Class D Certification

Wärtsilä Voyage’s NTPRO (Navi-Trainer Professional 5000) navigational simulator has attained certification according to the new DNV Class D standard for cloud-based simulators — making it the first certified cloud solution that offers both interactive instructor-led and student-led training. With this, the navigational simulator now has full compliance (Class A, B, C, D) with DNV’s ST-0033 Maritime Simulator Systems standard.

ECO CATANIA: Grimaldi Group’s fifth green giant christened

The christening ceremony of the ECO CATANIA – the new ro-ro vessel delivered to the Grimaldi Group in early June – ended just a little while ago at the port of Catania. This is the fifth of 12 hybrid ships belonging to the innovative GG5G (Grimaldi Green 5th Generation) Class and ordered by the company from the Chinese Jinling shipyard located in Nanjing.

Classification Society ClassNK has proclaimed its roles to support the transition of the shipping business to zero-emission.
While efforts to build a decarbonized society are being accelerated such as through strengthened GHG reduction targets in various countries and with the progress of sustainable finance, a framework for assessing GHG emissions has also been introduced to MARPOL. The shipping industry is now required to plan and manage GHG emissions in an organized manner.

More summer tourists travel across the Kattegat

Tallink Grupp publishes June and 2021 second quarter passenger and cargo statistics

Tallink Grupp has today (5 July) published its June and 2021 Q2 passenger and cargo statistics to the stock exchange. According to the statistics published, Tallink Grupp transported 218,950 passengers in June 2021, which is a 21.9% decrease compared to the same period last year (280,580 passengers in June 2020). The number of cargo units transported in June 2021 increased by 4.6% compared to the year before to 31,440 units (30,064 in June 2020), but the number of passenger vehicles transported decreased by 22.6% in June 2021 to 58,390 units (75,418 in June 2020).

From yesterday, 1 July, Tallink Grupp’s vessels SILJA EUROPA and BALTIC QUEEN have switched to using shore power at the Port of Tallinn’s Old City Harbour during their port stays. For Tallink Grupp, using shore power in the Port of Tallinn marks an important step towards more sustainable operations which means less air pollution in the city and reduces the noise created by the ships’ engines.
