Ulstein Verft delivered NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC RESOLUTION

Lindblad Expeditions' new 124-metre long polar vessel NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC RESOLUTION has been delivered from Norway’s Ulstein Verft.
NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC RESOLUTION holds a capacity for 126 passengers and is built to the Polar Class 5 rating which will enable the vessel to operate year-round in polar environments.

Naviera Armas takes delivery of Incat wave piercer

Incat 111m wave piercing catamaran VOLCÁN DE TAIDIA left Hobart on 29 September on its delivery voyage to the Canary Islands. The journey via Auckland, Papetee and the Panama Canal is expected to take approximately 26 days.
The 11,213 gt vessel will enter service alongside sister ship VOLCÁN DE TAGORO, which has been operating on Naviera Armas Trasmediterránea’s route between Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife for the past two years.

Emerald Cruises orders second 100 passenger capacity Superyacht type vessel in Vietnam

European and Mekong Delta river cruise specialist Emerald Cruises, part of Australia’s Scenic Group, has ordered a second 100 passenger capacity Superyacht-type cruise vessel from Vietnam’s Halong Shipbuilding Co. The 110m vessel, to be named EMERALD SAKARA, is expected in service during the first quarter of 2023 and will be a sistership to EMERALD AZZURRA which was launched in December 2020 and is due in service in early 2022.

Salamis sells and replace ALEXO

The 1983-built ALEXO have been sold by Salamis to a not-yet known buyer. Recently acquired VASSILIOS, former Godby Shipping’s BALTICA, will be replacing on the Lavrio-Limassol-Haifa route.
Salamis announced the sale price amounted to EUR 3.479 million, which accounting for a profit of approximately EUR 1 million.
Handover will take place at the beginning of this October.

New French start-up operator Blue Channel Line to start new Calais-Tilbury service in early November

New French start-up Blue Channel Line has announced that its new ferry service between Calais and Tilbury will now start in early November and not October as originally planned. The service, to be operated by a yet to be revealed chartered vessel, will operate six times a week, sailing from Calais at 22.00 hours Monday-Friday, and returning from Tilbury at 09.00 on Tuesday-Saturday with unaccompanied freight.
HARU MARU NO. 6 entered service for Daio Kaiun

On September 16, 2021, HARU MARU NO. 6, was completed at Naikai Zosen Innoshima shipyard in Hiroshima prefecture, and entered service on the Iyo Mishima-Uno-Osaka-Chiba route.
Her operator is Shikokuchuo-based Daio Kaiun, and in May 2021, her sister ship, HARU MARU NO. 5 entered service on the same route.
Stena Line to add the two extended E-Flexers to their Baltic Sea fleet next year

Stena Line will continue its expansion on the Baltic Sea during 2022 by deploying the two 240-meter-long extended E-Flexer’s on the Nynäshamn-Ventspils route. Stena Line also announce plans to increase the capacity on the Karlskrona-Gdynia route with the deployment of the two large and recently lengthened STENA SCANDICA and STENA BALTICA.

Carnival Corporation & plc Provides Third Quarter 2021 Business Update
U.S. GAAP net loss of USD 2.8 billion and adjusted net loss of USD 2.0 billion for the third quarter of 2021. Third quarter 2021 ended with USD 7.8 billion of liquidity, which the company believes is sufficient to return to full cruise operations.
P&O Ferries choose Surikat’s Lynx Terminal Operating System

In early 2020, P&O Ferries contacted Surikat to see if they could help them with a terminal operating solution for the 3 North Sea terminals which they operate. The solution would be to handle accompanied and unaccompanied freight, for a combination of road, rail, barge, LOLO and RORO cargo.
After a thorough period of analysis by both Surikat and P&O - fortunately pre COVID lockdowns - they signed a contract in Spring 2020 and began the implementation and rollout. It was an unusual challenge for the project teams, with go-lives being handled remotely, but the project pushed ahead and is currently live in Rotterdam with other ports and terminals to follow.
Rolls-Royce supplies mtu solutions for propulsion, automation and digital service on the AVEMAR DOS ferry

Rolls-Royce's new mtu engines, new mtu ship automation system, and new mtu Go! tool for remote service have future-proofed the high-speed catamaran AVEMAR DOS run by Spanish operator Balearia. Four new-generation mtu 20V1163 M84 units replaced the previous 1163 units, taking the vessel to a new level of ecological soundess. Fuel consumption – and with it CO2 emissions – are 8% lower than with the previous propulsion system. Furthermore, the new Series 1163 units deliver the same power output, but with a 33% reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions, thereby meeting the requirements of the IMO Tier II emissions standard.

The ProZero CityHopper Line is a range of light weight catamaran designs in the size from 10 to 15 meters specifically designed for urban waterway passenger transportation.
Seabourn Names Second New Ultra-Luxury Expedition Ship SEABOURN PURSUIT; Announces Inaugural Voyage Date

Seabourn, the ultra-luxury ocean and expedition cruise line, announced today that it will name its second new ultra-luxury purpose-built expedition ship SEABOURN PURSUIT, which is reflective of the passion exhibited by expedition travelers to seek out and explore natural wonders and destinations through immersive recreational activities around the world.
Construction for SEABOURN PURSUIT began in fall 2020 during a ceremony in San Giorgo di Nogare, Italy, and the build process is well underway. The ship is scheduled for delivery in February 2023, with its sister ship, SEABOURN VENTURE, slated for delivery in March 2022.
BC Ferries fifth Island Class ferry arrives in Victoria

BC Ferries’ fifth battery-hybrid Island Class ferry arrives in Victoria, British Columbia Sept 28. ISLAND 5, as it is temporarily named, left Damen Shipyards in Galati, Romania on July 31. The vessel sailed under its own power across the Atlantic Ocean, through the Panama Canal and up the Pacific Coast of North America to Victoria. The 59 day journey will be complete when Island 5 arrives at Point Hope Maritime this afternoon.
Clean technology company Silverstream Technologies has announced that it has secured an order from Meyer Werft Shipyard to install its air lubrication technology, the Silverstream® System, on a new Carnival Corporation Excel-class cruise ship, currently known as hull S717.
The Silverstream® System uses a series of air release units (ARUs) in the flat bottom of a vessel to generate a rigid carpet of microbubbles that travel the full length of the hull. The technology will be installed during S717’s construction, with Meyer Werft manufacturing the ARUs to Silverstream specifications.
Duty free boost helping Stena Line get back on course
Duty free shopping is making a big impact as it proves popular with passengers once again on routes between Ireland and Wales. Early sales figures show the huge potential it has to help the travel sector bounce back after the pandemic. Nowhere has the boost from duty free become more apparent than at Swedish ferry company Stena Line, where spend per passenger in its onboard shops saw a fourfold increase in August, on routes where passengers can now enjoy tax free shopping.
Freight volumes rise 32 percent in a year on Brittany Ferries’ Ireland-Spain route
Brittany Ferries is carrying more than 1,000 freight units a month on its seaborne route connecting Rosslare in Ireland with Bilbao in Spain. In total, 7,874 units were carried in the first eight months of this year, which was 70 percent or 3,246 units up on 2020 figures.
Since April, the route has consistently carried in excess of 1,000 trucks and trailers per month.
NAPA launches a next-generation stability management solution for passenger ships
NAPA has announced the launch of the advanced stability software - NAPA Stability. The new onboard stability solution is set to replace NAPA Loading Computer in the passenger shipping sector. It will be deployed with additional cloud-based functions on NAPA Fleet Intelligence to increase ship-to-shore transparency and proactively raise the industry benchmark for ship stability and loading management.

As the cruise industry reawakens and endeavours to attract more passengers, Evac is introducing new antimicrobial materials for toilet seats and pushbuttons which will give guests and cruise operators extra peace of mind.
Cargo record for Wasaline - AURORA BOTNIA welcomed by the market
Wasaline’s freight volumes continue to grow. AURORA BOTNIA with its larger freight capacity and added departures transported the largest ever freight volume of Wasaline on the evening departure of September 24 from Umeå to Vaasa since the shipping company began its operations in 2013.
The agreement, effective in the coming months, significantly reduces debt by capitalizing EUR 250 million in bonds and repaying EUR 200 million of debt. The Future Plan outlines the essential objectives of a new corporate structure, investors who trust the Plan and the great human capital that the company has.
Regular scheduled services to the Port of Skellefteå for WALLENIUS SOL
WALLENIUS SOL continues to develop its offering and improve the infrastructure in the Gulf of Bothnia. In conjunction with an agreement concerning transport logistics concluded between logistics company Scanlog and Northvolt, WALLENIUS SOL is now including its first Swedish commercial port in its route network. The service will involve weekly traffic to the Port of Skellefteå beginning October 2021.
