Stena RoRo sold MONT VENTOUX to CMA CGM

The Visentini-built MONT VENTOUX from 1996 has been sold by Stena RoRo to CMA CGM, for whom it’s been on charter since Stena RoRo acquired it in early 2005 from Levantina Trasporti.

The 2,250 lanemetre capacity MONT VENTOUX carries trailers, containers and project cargoes such as tram sets, cranes, etc. between Marseille and Tunis.

Tallink Grupp has released interior images of its newest vessel MYSTAR, currently under construction at the Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) shipyard in Rauma, Finland. The interior design of the LNG-powered vessel, MYSTAR is carried out by the Finnish interior design agency dSign Vertti Kivi & Co.

Costa Cruises’ second LNG-powered cruise ship, the 183,731gt COSTA TOSCANA, has been delivered from Meyer Turku shipyard.

A sister ship to the 2019-built COSTA SMERALDA and member of Carnival Corporation's Helios/Excellence platform, COSTA TOSCANA will make her inaugural cruise from Savona on 5 March 2022.

Attica Group released its third quarter financial result. Consolidated revenue reached EUR 148.31 million (EUR 113.58 million), while EBITDA ended at EUR 47.11 million (EUR 36.86 million).

- EBIT reached EUR 33.34 million (EUR 24.54 million)

- The Group held cash and cash equivalents of at EUR 93.80 million on 30 Sep 2021, compared to EUR 80.53 million as at 31 Dec 2020. The Group also held undrawn credit lines amounting to EUR 34 million on 30 Sep 2021.

Brittany Ferries today (30 November) took delivery of its second E-Flexer, SALAMANCA, a little over a year after the first one, GALICIA. Senior executives including, CEO Christophe Mathieu attended a ceremony of hand-over in Sweden at the head office of construction partners Stena RoRo for the vessel which will be long-term chartered by Brittany Ferries.

The LNG-powered SALAMANCA is expected to arrive from the CMI Jinling Weihai Shipyard in China to Europe in February 2022 and will be followed by the sister ship SANTONA a year later. Two more not-yet named hybrid LNG-electric E-Flexer’s will be joining Brittany Ferries in 2024 and 2025, the replacers of BRETAGNE and NORMANDIE.

Griffon Hoverwork received a GBP 25 million hovercraft order from Japan

The Japanese Oita Prefecture government has ordered three hovercrafts from Griffon Hoverwork in a GBP 25 million deal. The hovercrafts will provide a vital passenger service connecting Oita Airport in Kunisaki with Oita City, improving access and reintroducing a ferry route last used about 10 years ago.

Work on the first hovercraft will start at the end of January 2022, with delivery of all three scheduled before January 2024.

The hovercrafts are based on the 12000TD’s design, with some adjustments to local requirements. They are 23.7m long and can carry approximately 80 people at a top speed of 45 knots.

AUTO ADVANCE has been delivered from China’s Jiangnan Shipyard. It is the first in a line of three LNG-powered 3,600-CEU capacity PCTCs for UECC.

The lead designer of the UECC newbuildings, which have a length of 169m and a beam of 28m, is Shanghai Merchant Ship Design & Research Institute (SDARI), with all vessels being built to DNV GL class.

AUTO ADVANCE will be followed by AUTO ACHIEVE and AUTO ASPIRE in 2022.

Rederi AB Gotland acquired CLdN’s VALENTINE

Rederi AB Gotland announced that they acquired VALENTINE from CLdN, which is currently on its way for a +12-month KiwiRail bareboat charter to serve the Cooks Sound between the North Island and the South Island of New Zealand.

VALENTINE is expected to arrive there during the second half of December and will cover breakdowns in the Interislander Line Cook Strait fleet.

Polskie Promy signed newbuilding contract for three new hybrid ro-pax ferries with Remontowa

Polskie Promy, fully owned by Polska Zegluga Morska (PZM), have signed a contract with Remontowa Shipbuilding for three new hybrid ro-pax ferries, two of which will be built for their Unity Line subsidiary, and one likely for Polferries charter.

The RMDC (Remontowa Marine Design & Consulting) designed ferries will have four LNG dual-fuel engines and a battery pack, making them capable of 19 knots. They will be 195.6m long and have a capacity for 4,100 lanemetres of freight and 400 passengers.

The contract holds an option for a fourth unit.

The Ignazio Messina & C. Spa di Genova shipping company has been appointed official carrier by the Rally Dakar 2022 Saudi Arabia organization. By the end of this week the Genoa based company will deploy three vessels JOLLY QUARZO, JOLLY TITANIO and, if it will be partially needed, JOLLY PERLA, that will carry (from Marseille to Jeddah) all cars expected to attend the world most famous Rally race.

Extension of 11,6m for ROTRA MARE at Holland Shipyards

The ROTRA MARE of 141,6m x 20,6m will be extended by 11,6m to a vessel of 152,7m length. To construct this extension, a new section is being built. The current vessel will be cut in half for this purpose, the bow will float out of the dry dock and the new section will be placed in between. This section will first be adapted to the aft ship in the dry dock, after which the dock will be lowered for the attachment of the foreship.

While the ROTRA MARE is under construction, Holland Shipyards are also working on the conversion of her sister vessel, the ROTRA VENTE. This conversion includes the installation of new sponsoons on both sides of the vessel to increase the deck width to 23.6m. The lifted bow will also be raised to load the next generation of wind turbines.

Contract awarded for piers upgrade for new Islay vessels

Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL) has awarded a contract to engineering firm Mott MacDonald to support the detailed design of pier infrastructure upgrade works.
The £1.5 million contract, which has been awarded following a public sector procurement process, covers design consultancy services for vessel enabling works at Port Ellen and Port Askaig in Islay, Kennacraig and Colonsay.

The electrification of another two ferry connections in Norway will be realized with Zinus' autonomous charging solution. The order further strengthens Zinus' position as a supplier of efficient charging infrastructure to the ferry traffic along the elongated Norwegian coast.

Rolls-Royce extends TBO intervals of mtu Series 4000 engines for commercial marine application

Rolls-Royce is introducing significantly extended engine running times of up to 96,000 hours between overhauls (TBO) for the latest generation of its mtu Series 4000 engines for commercial marine. In general, all marine engines of the latest generation of mtu Series 4000 can now run for up to 25 years before they need a major overhaul, depending on the duration and intensity of use. That is seven years more between overhauls than previously recommended.

Viking Line Abp has received a temporary exemption from covenants included in its financing agreement for its new vessel, VIKING GLORY, and the Board of Directors of the Company has, based on the authorisation granted by the Extraordinary General Meeting (“EGM”) held on 22 November 2021, resolved on a rights offering of approximately EUR 52 million (the “Offering”). In the Offering, the Company will offer for subscription, based on pre-emptive rights for the existing shareholders of the Company, a maximum of 6,480,000 new shares (the “Offer Shares”).

Cyprus Shipping Deputy Ministry launches tender for heavily subsidized ferry link between Cyprus and Greece

The Cyprus Shipping Deputy Ministry (SDM) has announced the launch of a tender process (Tender No. SDM 14/2021) to reinstate a maritime passenger link between Cyprus and Greece.
The service will be subsidized by state funds in accordance with the European Union rules governing a Service of General Economic Interest to a total of €5.5m for the three-year contract, with the possibility of an extension of the contract for a further three years.
