Baleària expands its connections with Algeria to five weekly services during the summer and begins operating the Tarifa-Tangier Ville route in the second week of May

FerryBaleària will strengthen its connections to Algeria during the summer by expanding its weekly service from three to five to meet the high passenger and vehicle demand concentrated at this time of year. From 15 June to 15 September, Baleària will operate three weekly connections to Mostaganem from Valencia, as well as one to Algiers and another to Oran from Barcelona. This latter route marks the second time the company has opened between the two countries from Barcelona. This new schedule allows the shipping company to offer its largest commercial offering to Algeria since it began operating in the country in 2016.
Baleària also announced that they will begin operating the Tarifa-Tangier Ville route in the second week of May. Tickets will launch next week, with initially operate four daily services from each port, with departures gradually increasing as the summer season progresses, from early morning until late evening.

“Maritime connectivity between Spain and Algeria is a priority to ensure the mobility of thousands of Algerians who wish to reunite with their families. We are committed to efficient, high-quality transport between the two countries,” said Georges Bassoul, CEO of Baleària, who also thanked the Algerian government and port authorities for their collaboration in making this expansion possible.

Baleària will deploy two ferries for these connections, each offering extensive onboard amenities tailored to passenger needs, including cabins and seats, cafeterias, restaurants with halal options, and prayer areas, among others. The shipping company also offers a telephone service in Arabic to facilitate customer communication.

Baleària will begin operating the Tarifa-Tangier Ville route in the second week of May. The shipping company, which will launch tickets next week, will initially operate four daily services from each port, with departures gradually increasing as the summer season progresses, from early morning until late evening. Last December, Baleària was awarded this new route, which expands its presence in the Strait of Gibraltar and represents its fourth service between Spain and Morocco.

Baleària's CEO, Georges Bassoul, celebrated the launch of commercial operations on the new route, expressing "the greatest excitement and ambition to begin offering the quality, reliability, and comfort of our services to passengers."

Baleària will operate this one-hour cruise with high-speed vessels, which have been completely renovated to offer greater comfort to passengers. Onboard services include a bar-café, a children's area, pet facilities, and a gift shop, among others.

The company will also offer one- or two-day excursion packages to Tangier, where passengers can discover the city's cultural, historical, and culinary heritage accompanied by a local guide.

Two 100% electric, zero-emission fast ferries under construction

For this new route, Baleària will build two 100% electric, zero-emission fast ferries , which will make it the first green corridor between Spain and Morocco. These twin catamarans will be built at Astilleros Armon in Gijón and are expected to be operational in 2027. Each vessel will have an electrical power of 16 MW, thanks to four battery-powered electric propulsion engines, whose capacity of 11,500 kWh will allow them to complete the entire 18-mile journey with electric propulsion and zero emissions. Each vessel will also have four diesel-powered backup generators, with a total capacity of 11,200 kW, for possible contingencies.

The fast ferries ' batteries   must be fully recharged during their one-hour stopover at each port. To achieve this, 8 MWh gross batteries will be installed at both ports, which will be added to the shore-based power supply. Charging will be carried out by two innovative autonomous robotic arms installed at each port, which will be connected to the ship via the OPS connection.
