Booking pressure is increasing for Stena Line on the Sweden-Denmark routes
FerryStena Line reports an increase in the number of bookings for the month of September on its regular service between Sweden and Denmark. The company attributes the development to its investments to improve the passenger experience, but also sees a connection to the general recovery of the Swedish economy.
After the Riksbank's reductions in the key interest rate and further expected reductions in the future, a more stable economic situation is expected. Now Stena Line can also report on a positive development, as the ferry company sees a recovery in the booking situation. In September, bookings were only five per cent lower overall for the Denmark region in comparison to the same month in 2023. The fact that the booking volume is just below last year's figures, however, must be seen against the background of the fact that 2023 was a record year in terms of the number of bookings on the lines between Sweden and Denmark.
"We, like many other travel operators, have longed for the recovery with interest rate cuts and a more optimistic view of the country's future economy, which we can now see. This results in improved purchasing power and increased desire to travel, which we can already see reflected in our booking status," says Ulf Staaff, Travel Commercial Manager at Stena Line.
Currently, the key interest rate in Sweden is 3.25 percent, after a reduction from 3.50 percent on 25 September this year. The Riksbank also assesses that further reductions may take place.
"In addition to the interest rate cuts, we also want to believe that our ongoing efforts to improve the customer experience have attracted travellers to us. A concrete example of this is the completely new and improved booking tunnel - that is, where our customers book their trip with Stena Line - which means an even simpler, faster and clearer booking process. In addition, we are already seeing strong booking figures for the first months of next year, so it is with cautious optimism that we look ahead – ready to welcome more travellers on board ," says Ulf Staaff.
