Corsica Linea to supply part of its fleet with certified sustainable biofuel
FerryPart of the Corsica Linea fleet will now be supplied with certified sustainable biofuel from the 2023 summer season. The fuel is composed of a mixture of recycled cooking oils and allows an 85% reduction in polluting emissions compared to its fossil equivalent.
Pierre-Antoine Villanova – Managing Director of Corsica Linea
“The use of carbon-free fuels is one of the solutions chosen to reduce the carbon footprint of our ships. Faced with climate challenges, we are pursuing initiatives to promote truly sustainable and responsible shipping in the Mediterranean. In five years, our company has already deployed many devices allowing it to have a unique energy mix in the Mediterranean. Today we are working to go even further and focus our efforts around a real global environmental plan that will allow us to achieve our goal of reducing the environmental impact of our activity by 30% by 2030.”
Thus, the marine biofuel mixed up to 30% in maritime fuel oil, will be the subject of refuelling operations carried out from July 2023 on four ships of the Corsica Linea fleet, within the GPMM (Grand Port Maritime de Marseille).
A first bunkering operation was carried out on 18 July 2023 aboard the MEDITERRANEE ferry and will continue until the end of its summer commercial operation (note: September 2023) on the North African lines.
