Finnlines considers second ship on successful Swinoujscie–Malmö route

FerryOn 14 January 2025, a ceremony summarizing Finnlines' presence in Poland was held onboard Finnlines' FINNFELLOW at the Euro Terminal in Swinoujscie. In April 2024, the ferry line launched its first connection between Swinoujscie and Malmö, providing access to the Copenhagen and Skåne regions.

Thanks to the new connection, Polish and foreign companies and tourists have the opportunity to reach Malmö by ferry, which is a cultural centre and Sweden's third largest city, located just 30 minutes by train from Copenhagen.

The celebration was attended by journalists, customers, and port authorities. The event gave an opportunity to discuss the development of Polish-Scandinavian trade and tourism relations. From Finnlines the company’s President and CEO Tom Pippingsköld, Line Manager and Rederi AB Nordö-Link’s Managing Director Antonio Raimo, Head of Passenger Services Marco Palmu, and Captain Jesper Axelsson attended the event. The guests also had a unique opportunity to visit the ferry FINNFELLOW and hear about the connection between Swinoujscie and Malmö, which has now been running for nine months.

"With our new Poland–Sweden route, we have opened up exciting opportunities for trade and tourism. This connection is highly important for both Polish and Swedish trade, as well as for the countries' security of supply, which Finnlines is committed to ensure," said Tom Pippingsköld, President and CEO of Finnlines.

Rafal Zahorski, representing Szczecin and Swinoujscie Seaports Authority, emphasized the cooperation and the strong partnership between the parties, which has marked an important milestone.

"We are now focusing more on passenger travel, and the growth has been remarkable. In 2023, around 700,000 passengers travelled with us, while in 2024, the volumes increased to almost one million. Swedish travellers are coming to Poland for their summer holidays as Malmö is Sweden's bridge to the rest of the world. We see tremendous potential in this connection and look forward to building this success," says Marco Palmu, Head of Finnlines' Passenger Services.

The new route, operated by the ro-pax ship FINNFELLOW, offers residents of Swinoujscie, Western Pomerania and Eastern and Central Europe convenient connections to Malmö, Skåne, as well as to Denmark and Norway.

Up to 440 passengers can board the FINNFELLOW, and the cargo capacity for vehicles and goods is about 3,000 lane metres.

The vessel departs every day – in the evenings from Swinoujscie and in the mornings from Malmö, thus combining efficiency with convenience. On board there are more than 180 cabins, a Finnish sauna, a buffet restaurant, a bar, a children's playground and a store.

After nine months of operation, it can already be confirmed that the Swinoujscie–Malmö connection has been a success, and Finnlines is considering introducing an additional ship on the route to meet growing demand.
