Ferry Fjord Line won the tender announced by Sandefjord municipality concerning the interesting 07:00 departures to Strömstad, and the 13:30, which are now both used by competitor Color Line, and which will be used by Fjord Line as from 2020.
After this victory Fjord Line announced that the company was going to invest in a newbuilding, since they have to double the capacity to fill in the new sailing slots.
Fjord Line will handle four daily departures at 07:00, 08:30, 13:30 and 15:20.
Color Line will offer sailings from Sandefjord at 10:00 and 17:00 with only one ship as from 2020 (instead of BOHUS and COLOR VIKING now).
Fjord Line currently uses OSLOFJORD, which will be upgraded to become "more environmental friendly". OSLOFJORD will move to the newly acquired departure times, whilst the new ship will depart at 08:30 and 14:20.
This route between Norway and Sweden is an important shopping route, with lots of Norwegians taking the ferry to go to cheaper Sweden, and to enjoy the low prices onboard.
Earlier Color Line had announced a hybrid ferry newbuilding for the route, if they can keep the 10:00 departure. Which they can.
