Gotlandsbolaget invests in biogas on Gotland
Gotlandsbolaget invests and becomes a partner in EnergiSkiftet Sverige AB on Gotland. The investment lays the foundation for continued aggressive growth of the biogas investment on Gotland and enables increased access to biogas. EnergiSkiftet Sverige AB is a parent company of Biogas Gotland, BroGas and Gotlands Fastbränsle and Gotlandsbolaget thereby becomes a minority owner.
BroGas’ operations today consist of the production of biogas. Biogas Gotland refines the biogas to vehicle gas quality, which is delivered to the customer via a number of filling stations on Gotland. Gotlands Fastbränsle is a supplier of green energy to Arla Foods in Visby.
"We invest in a well-run and sustainable company, and we also see it as an investment in living and working in a sustainable Gotland. A common goal with EnergiSkiftet is that our part ownership contributes to increased opportunities for biogas and also for other types of green energy to grow, and there are already plans for another biogas plant in southern Gotland," says Håkan Johansson, CEO of Gotlandsbolaget.
Gotlandstrafiken can already use biogas in two of the ships today and wants to increase the use.
Håkan Johansson continues "Our goal is for the journey between Gotland and the mainland to be climate neutral by 2045, and CO2 emissions to be reduced by 70 percent by 2030. To achieve that, we are working on the development of the next generation of ferries, but also on reducing the climate footprint from our existing fleet. There, biogas as a complement to natural gas is an important component.”
EnergiSkiftet also sees the deal as a strategic match on several levels.
"We see this as something very positive. We are getting a partner from Gotland who is long-term and capital strong. In addition, it is a potential future customer, where our biogas can contribute to lower emissions from Gotland traffic," says Magnus Ahlsten, EnergiSkiftet.
