Keel laying ceremony held for Scandlines new zero-emission double-ended ro-pax at Cemre Shipyard
FerryA keel laying ceremony was held for Scandlines first zero-emission double-ended ro-pax on order at Turkey’s Cemre Shipyard, continuing the process to build the world’s largest zero direct emissions ferry.
When delivered in March 2024 the new ferry, designed by Norway’s LMG Marin, will operate between Puttgarden, in Germany and Rødby, carrying 140 passengers and 66 freight vehicles (approximately 1,200 lanemetres), an increase of 23% on the vessels currently maintaining this route.
The design of the new, yet to be named, double-ender ferry will allow for the carriage of freight vehicles on both the main and upper decks. Moreover, the modular construction of the new Turkish newbuilding will also make it possible at a later date to carry cars.
Scandlines newbuilding will measure 147.4m x 25.4m x 5.3m design draught and is being built to LR class. The ferry will be a battery hybrid vessel, featuring a 10MWh Leclanché battery charging system and also Safe Return to Port (SRtP) compliance.
When operating in fully electric mode, service speed will be 10 knots, while hybrid will allow for 16 knots.
