Molslinjen reshuffles summer fleet due to newbuild delays
FerryThe two delayed electric ferries from Cemre Shipyard, NERTHUS and TYRFING are forcing Molslinjen to swap out several ferries to make the summer cohesive on Samsø. In return, tickets will be cheap in the sailing schedule that has just been released for the rest of 2025.
Molslinjen's two electric ferries for Alslinjen and Samsølinjen are delayed from the shipyard in Turkey. The delay now sends Molslinjen into a ferry reshuffle, which should make the beginning of the summer coherent on the two routes. This means that Alslinjen must wait to get its electric ferry, and that Samsølinjen will get Alslinjen's electric ferry to start.
Summer is the peak season for ferry travel. Therefore, it was also expected that Molslinjen would be able to deploy two brand new electric ferries on the Alslinjen and the Samsølinjen. Unfortunately, both ferries are delayed, and therefore new plans have been needed to find ferries for both routes.
The first electric ferry in Denmark is NERTHUS, which was built for Alslinjen. It is expected to be put into operation on 16 June 2025 – but on the Samsølinjen instead. Until then, the replacement ferry, FYNSHAV, will operate, which will make up to four daily double trips on the busiest days.
"Samsø is a destination where the number of passengers increases significantly over the summer, so we need to be able to deploy a ferry with more capacity. That is why we choose to take Alslinjen's ferry and deploy to Samsø", says Molslinjen's CEO, Kristian Durhuus.
Low-cost ticket
Samsø residents and travellers to Samsø are no strangers to dynamic prices. There are already different prices today when the seasons change. But now even more dynamics are being introduced into the prices with a genuine low-cost ticket.
For a regular car, prices throughout the year will start at just 99 kroner for a crossing – and in the absolute peak season on a summer Saturday, the most expensive ticket will cost a maximum of 392 kroner for a regular car.
“There will be many of the cheapest tickets available throughout the year, and it is our hope that this will help make Samsø more popular to visit even outside the high season,” says Kristian Durhuus.
