Trasmed incorporates the CIUDAD DE SOLLER into its fleet
FerryTrasmed adds the ship CIUDAD DE SOLLER to its fleet on 25 March 2024. The ship will replace the CUIDAD DE ALCUDIA, which ends its service in the first days of April.
Thus, the CIUDAD DE SOLLER, until now IGOUMENITSA, in the service of Grimaldi Lines, will make its first commercial trip with this same name from the shipyards of Turkey to Valencia and later, it will depart for Palma, thus beginning its service and positioning itself on the Palma-Barcelona route.
For legal reasons related to the administrative deadlines of Italian legislation, the CIUDAD DE SOLLER will be named IGOUMENITSA, and its flag and crew will be Italian during the first two months of service, until approximately 25 May.
For Miguel Pardo, director of Institutional Relations of the Grimaldi Group in Spain, "it is a ship with better performance than the CIUDAD DE ALCUDIA, both for cargo and passengers. It is also a more modern ship and will allow us to continue reducing emissions, in line with company policy".
The name CIUDAD DE SOLLER has been selected as a tribute to the Mallorcan coastal town, which has historically played a crucial role as a maritime connection point between Mallorca, Valencia, Barcelona and the south of France. This choice reflects Trasmed's commitment to local communities and thus recognizes the rich maritime history of this maritime enclave on the island of Mallorca.
The incorporation of the CIUDAD DE SOLLER into the Trasmed fleet represents another step in the shipping company's efforts to offer efficient and sustainable maritime transport solutions in the Spanish Mediterranean. Thus, the ferry CIUDAD DE PALMA, which currently uses this route, will cover the Valencia-Palma line, and the ferries CIUDAD DE BARCELONA and CIUDAD DE GRANADA will intersect on the Valencia-Ibiza, Barcelona- Ibiza and Barcelona-Mahon.
