First power exchange with NG3 PLUG at Trondheim
As part of the reduction of the emissions of the Kysruten (formally Hurtigruten) RopA service along Norway west coast , operated by both Havila and Hurtigruten vessels, port of Trondheim has just commissioned a new quay side PLUG interface with a power exchange capability of up to 2000 Ampère under 1 kilo Volt, provided by NG3.
To meet port of Trondheim requirement as well, as the one of other ports of this route (such as the one, above the polar circle, of BoDØ, do for which has go an order as well, NG3 has developed a specific winterized solution where the whole interface is protected inside a mobile tower, which to ease logistics, fits within a standard 40 feet container envelope.
This tower moves sideways to align itself with the ship side PLUG interface , whereas inside, a platform moves up and down to not only cope with tide or vessel draft variations, but as well with the different deck locations on board, which can be between, depending on designer’s choice, from the second to the fourth deck. The extreme wind and snow loads relevant to Eurocode Norwegian Annex have been as well taken into account and the whole unit is compliant with CE requirements.
Beyond covering hotel loads, this PLUG shore power solutions will be used for the four Havila hybrid propulsion RoPax to charge their batteries, increasing furthermore their environmental and economical performance.
