Hansa Destinations opens for more sustainable and cost-efficient transportation with two new intermodal opportunities
With two new regular train-connections to and from the gateway of Rostock, an essential connection with Duisburg and Kaldenkirchen (DE), Italy and south France are now available, connected with middle Sweden. Hansa Destinations are also expanding its services with cargo transport departures directly from Rostock to Visby on the island of Gotland.
Since September two new intermodal opportunities will speed up the transfer from road to rail and sea. The nine weekly additional train roundtrips connecting Duisburg as well as the hub Kaldenkirchen with Rostock have started since a few weeks. The combination of trains and ferry schedules provides a fast and sustainable transport connecting southern, western with northern Europe.
Tailormade to fit Hansa Destinations schedule
Rostock and its various intermodal options are essential for effective and sustainable cargo flows. There are six weekly round trips available between gateway Kaldenkirchen with connections to Perpignan (France) & Domodossola (Italy). A further three weekly roundtrips between Duisburg and Rostock have now also started.
- Both train connections are tailormade to fit Hansa Destinations schedule to connect to/from middle and north of Sweden with Rostock. The trains are set up with a combination of double-pocket wagons and container carrying wagons to enable more forwarders and other customers to change from pressured roads to more environmentally friendly and swift alternatives. This opens for more sustainable and cost-efficient transportation between south and northern Europe when shifting transports from road to rail and sea, says Håkan Johansson, CEO of Gotlandsbolaget, which operates Hansa Destinations.
A more reliable option by avoiding bottlenecks
This route also avoids some of the bottlenecks we have seen and experienced on some of the rail network in Denmark and south of Sweden. This route therefore makes this a more reliable option for cargo to/from middle and north of Sweden as well as cargo in-, and outbound for Finland and north Norway.
Direct ferry for cargo from Rostock to Gotland
Hansa Destinations recently also received the permission to offer the first regular direct ferry link for cargo between Rostock (DE) and Visby (Gotland-SE). By offering this attractive added service it will open more opportunities to our freight costumers.
