Total revenues for Royal Caribbean Group in 2023 were USD 13.9 billion (USD 8.8 billion) and adjusted EBITDA was USD 4.5 billion (USD 711.6 million). As of 31 December 2023, the Group's customer deposit balance was at USD 5.3 billion and the Group's liquidity position was USD 3.1 billion, which includes cash and cash equivalents and undrawn revolving credit facility capacity.

TECO 2030 and Umoe Mandal submits fuel cell high-speed vessel design for approval in principle

The ship will be constructed based on Umoe Mandal’s proven Crew Transfer Vessel (CTV) Surface Effect Ship (SES) technology and with the air-cushion catamaran design it will offer low imprint on surrounding environment, even in challenging and vulnerable ocean conditions. CTVs are often used during the construction, maintenance, and operation of offshore wind farms. This specific vessel will be a passenger vessel and have a service speed of 35 knots, a range of minimum 160 nautical miles and carry 275 passengers.

Wasaline launches new restaurant concept

On 8 February, Wasaline launches a new restaurant concept aboard its ferry AURORA BOTNIA. Bistro Botnia will serve food made from local, seasonal ingredients. The menu includes both fine dining and simpler options. The launch takes place during the Kvarken Food Cruise, a trade fair and exhibition for anyone interested in food and drink.

It is the à la carte restaurant on deck 8, which has been converted into Bistro Botnia.

In early April 2023 Tallink Grupp’s subsidiaries AS Tallink Latvija and Hansalink Ltd signed a contract with Canadian enterprise Bridgemans Floatel Limited Partnership for a multi-year charter of the company’s vessel ISABELLE with a purchase option. Today (31 Jan), a transaction has been completed whereby Bridgemans has exercised this purchase option, and, as a result, the group’s Cyprus-based subsidiary, Notamare Shipping Company Limited, has acquired the vessel from Tallink Grupp.

Damen to build new 42-metre fast ferry to South Korea

Damen Shipyards has signed a contract to build a new 42-metre long aluminium catamaran for South Korean ferry operator KT Marine. The ferry will be of Damen’s FFe 4212 design and will be delivered by mid-2024.

The FFe 4212 is a 42-metre long aluminium catamaran that can carry up to 423 passengers and has a maximum speed of 40 knots. The power required to achieve such speeds is provided by four main engines delivering 5,760 kW of power to four waterjets. KT Marine will be deploying the new vessel on a route between Yeosu harbour and Geomundo Island (off the south coast of South Korea).

Tersan Shipyard delivered Fjord1’s SUNNYLVSFJORD

The battery-electric ferry, SUNNYLVSFJORD, has been delivered from the Turkish Tersan Shipyard. Fjord1 will put it into service on the Stranda-Liabygda route.

The vessel has a length of 84.0 m and a 248-passenger and 80-car capacity. A sistership, NORDDALSFJORD, will follow, which will serve the Eidsdal-Linge route.

Lakeway Link acquires the ro-ro vessel MIRAMAR EXPRESS for its new Poland-Sweden service

Lakeway Link announced that they have acquired the ro-ro vessel MIRAMAR EXPRESS from FRS. The vessel, which will be renamed LAKEWAY EXPRESS, is set to be deployed on Lakeway Link's new service connecting Poland and Sweden.

Lakeway Link’s services are scheduled to start in April, initially offering three weekly departures between Gdynia and Södertälje. The company intends to expand its services to include additional traffic to Västerås by 2026, following the reconstruction of the Södertälje locks.

ABB and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings expand long-term partnership

ABB and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) have signed a long-term partnership agreement to accelerate the decarbonization and digitalization of the Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) fleet. Targeting increased safety and efficiency, the agreement covers 14 existing ships and a further four vessels due for delivery from 2025 to 2028.

Euroafrica Shipping Lines’ 1988-built JAN SNIADECKI has been sold to a Greek buyer, believed to be Ainaftis. The vessel, which has operated for Unity Line, has already been renamed THALASSITIS for its new owner.

THALASSITIS becomes the second vessel in the fleet of Ainaftis, alongside the 1978-built ro-ro PELAGITIS, which the company bought in 2010 from Marine Atlantic (ex. ATLANTIC FREIGHTER).

Tallink Silja Line announced that it will temporarily add the company’s vessel VICTORIA I to the popular Tallinn-Stockholm route between 31 May-31 August 2024, to operate in tandem with the route’s other vessel BALTIC QUEEN and thus increasing departures between the two Nordic capitals for the three summer months and peak travel months of 2024.
