Ferry Terminal Turku: Constructor of the passenger terminal selected, and contract signed
PortPort of Turku Ltd and Skanska have signed a contract for the construction of the Ferry Terminal Turku passenger terminal. The construction work will begin in January 2025, with the planned completion date at the end of 2026.
The main facade materials of the passenger terminal, named ORIGAMI, will be glass and aluminium. The three-story complex will cover over 10,000 square metres, and its diverse facades are highly demanding.
The project aims to achieve three stars in the environmental classification, which corresponds to a good level of environmental quality.
“We are very pleased to be involved in developing Turku’s passenger port. Our goal is to build an impressive future passenger terminal according to the winning architectural design, so that we can be proud as thousands of people board the ship daily,” says Business Unit Director Vesa Hintukainen from Skanska.
The new passenger terminal will also accelerate urban development in Turku, enabling the advancement of the Linnanniemi area. The goal is to create a maritime, lively, and multifunctional area around Turku Castle for the benefit and enjoyment of both tourists and city residents.
“The terminal building is a central part of the development of the passenger port and an important step in opening Linnanniemi for public use. We have secured an experienced builder for the project, whose reliable and skilled hands we can trust with the construction,” states Port of Turku Ltd’s CEO Erik Söderholm.
