Fewer departures meant more passengers for Molslinjen
Molslinjen experienced a better August than last year, despite one less ferry and fewer departures.
After a somewhat disappointing July, August chose to stamp in with beautiful late summer weather - and that really sent the Danes out on the water and on the Molslinjen's ferry routes. With the exception of a single route, all routes saw more August visitors in 2024 than the previous year.
August 2024 brought progress on the Kattegat, on Øresundslinjen, Samsølinjen, Langelandslinjen, Fanølinjen and on Bornholmslinjen. The exception is the Alslinjen, where a redevelopment of the harbor in Fynshav has meant the deployment of a somewhat smaller ferry than usual.
There are three fast ferries sailing on the Kattegat – i.e. one less than in 2023, when the fast ferry MAX was also exceptionally included in the sailing plans.
"So even though we sail 129 fewer departures, in August this year we have had room for 331,473 passengers on the remaining three ferries - an increase of almost four percent compared to August 2023", says Molslinjen's commercial director, Jesper Skovgaard.
While the number of business customers is fairly stable, it is the leisure travelers who have driven the progress in August.
"Many Danes have holidayed abroad this summer, so there has probably been a pent-up desire to get around Denmark and visit the summer house, friends and family over the late summer", guesses Jesper Skovgaard.
