FRS Baltic discontinues the route between Trelleborg and Sassnitz
High-speedFRS Baltic has announced that due to high costs they will discontinue the Trelleborg-Sassnitz route with the high-speed catamaran SKÅNE JET as of Monday, 30 September 2024.
“We are experiencing significant increases in almost all operational costs, which are putting high pressure on us, especially the fuel costs. In addition, significant new costs were added, such as the CO2 taxes introduced in 2024 and pilot fees in the port of Sassnitz," explained Moritz Bruns, Managing Director of FRS Baltic, in the press release.
Bruns noted that in an increasingly price-sensitive market, where many customers must carefully manage their budgets due to rising living costs, it is no longer feasible to pass these expenses on through ticket prices. As a result, a profitable operation will no longer be possible in the foreseeable future.
“Of course, we regret that FRS Baltic is now choosing to cease operations after two years in Port of Trelleborg, but it does not come as a major surprise. For us, as Europe’s most sustainable ro-ro port, we have a great understanding of the need for the development of a more environmentally friendly ferry. We will now look at the possibilities for another operator to take over and develop the current route between Trelleborg-Sassnitz," says Jörgen Nilsson, CEO of Port of Trelleborg.
