Ports of Stockholm set a new cruise passenger record
PortThe 2017 international cruise ship season (May until October) ended on 13 October for the Ports of Stockholm, reaching record highs with some 600,000 passengers, giving a contribution to the Stockholm region of more than SEK 500m. The season saw 263 cruise ships calling at the Ports of Stockholm, of which 73 were turnarounds.
“Every month, almost for the past year, Stockholm has grown as an international tourist destination. The revenue from cruise passenger spending is important for both the tourist industry and for the entire Stockholm region,”explained Thomas Andersson, Visit Stockholm CEO.
“It is very positive to see passenger numbers increasing and Stockholm retaining its popularity as a cruise destination at the same time as we are developing and adapting our quays to be able to offer the shipping companies top class service,” stated Stefan Hansson, Chair of the Board at Port of Stockholm.
Some of the major developments the port has seen in recent times, is the addition of a new quay at the Värtahamnen port and the installation of a 260-metre long retractable floating pier at the Port of Nynäshamn.
