Premiere for DFDS’ new powerful charging station in Gothenburg
The market's most powerful charging station, DFDS Dock & Drive, has been put into operation in Arendal at Hisingen in Gothenburg. The facility consists of a total of 40 charging points for heavy trucks and has a capacity of 45,600 kW.
The charging infrastructure for heavy trucks is a critical factor for the green conversion of heavy truck traffic. Now the logistics giant DFDS has taken matters into its own hands and built what will be Sweden's most powerful charging station for heavy electric trucks.
"The charging station will be the hub for our growing fleet of electric trucks in Gothenburg. The traffic here is lively, we already have around 60 trucks in operation in Gothenburg and each truck needs to be loaded two or three times a day", says Henrik Ageflod, CEO of DFDS logistics Services, which is DFDS' own haulage company.
Series production of heavy electric trucks is underway in earnest and DFDS has already received delivery of 105 vehicles which are part of the 125 electric trucks ordered by DFDS from Volvo. When the order was placed a few years ago, it was the largest of its kind and has since paved the way for the company's green transformation. Today, electric trucks are a common sight, not least in the Port of Gothenburg.
"We cannot continue with our electrification if we do not simultaneously expand the charging infrastructure, it is critical. Now we hope that more actors in Sweden will take action and help build a network across Sweden", says Henrik Ageflod
The charging station will initially be used for charging DFDS' own trucks, but in the long term the company is open to also helping other hauliers. These days, DFDS is also inaugurating several other charging stations in Europe, in Ghent, Belgium, and at several locations in the Netherlands.
