Record number of cruise passengers for Helsinki port
PortWith a total of 478,000 cruise ship passengers, the Finnish capital reached a new record high in 2017. This represents an increase of 17% over 2016 and a 9.5% increase over 2015, the previous record year.
Just over one quarter of the passengers – 26% to be precise – originated from North America, followed by Germany (25%), the United Kingdom (just under 10%), Canada (almost 6%), and Spain (a little under 5%).
“This is quite a positive development,” Eeva Hietanen, Communications Manager at the Port of Helsinki said. “At the moment, it looks like 2018 will also be a busy cruise year.”
By the end of 2018 a new cruise ship quay will be commissioned in Hernesaari and will welcome the first cruise ships in 2019.
