Hansa Destinations marks one-year anniversary
One year ago, Hansa Destinations launched its new service between Nynäshamn and Rostock. Gotlandsbolaget’s investment in shipping between the continent and the Stockholm region is intended to reduce pressure on the Swedish road network and reduce emissions by transferring freight traffic from land to sea.
In May 2022, the service was expanded with daily departures. Interest among passengers has so far exceeded expectations, although the switch of freight traffic from road to sea has been slower than Gotlandsbolaget had hoped.
“We’ve established an efficient and reliable service between the continent and the Stockholm region. Suppliers and logistics companies that have chosen to shift freight traffic from road to sea have been very pleased with the results. They appreciate having another way to transport goods between the Stockholm region and northern Germany, which improves flexibility and efficiency. We’re working to get more people to invest in a solution that reduces emissions and at the same time relieves pressure on the road network,” says Håkan Johansson, CEO of Gotlandsbolaget.
The crossing between Nynäshamn and Rostock takes 18 hours.
“Many drivers have expressed appreciation for feeling rested on arrival, which is another benefit of this service,” Johansson adds.
