The CIUDAD DE MAHON rejoins the service between the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands with a renewed image
The CIUDAD DE MAHON (formerly the VOLCAN DE TIJARAFE), belonging to the Spanish shipping company Trasmed, belonging to the Grimaldi Group, arrived at the port of Valencia in the morning of 4 April, after having undergone work of improvement in the shipyards of Naples in Italy.
The ship, already refurbished and sporting a completely renewed image, returns to service on the Valencia - Ibiza line. She will also make the journey between Barcelona and Ibiza and from 9 April she will call at the ports of Mahón and Alcudia.
After being stranded for about a month, the CIUDAD DE MAHON has not only renewed its exterior and interior image, with the corporate colors of Trasmed - Grimaldi, but it has also been used for the installation scrubbers, with the aim of improving the efficiency and environmental sustainability of the fleet, as well as the refurbishment and improvement of cabins and public spaces.
The work carried out on the Trasmed ships represents an investment of around EUR 30 million. The ship CIUDAD DE PALMA and the CIUDAD DE MAHON have already passed through dry dock. The VOLCAN DEL TEIDE will soon do so, which will be renamed the CIUDAD DE BARCELONA.
Comprehensive improvement
In addition to the installation of scrubbers, the painting of the hull and the updating of the interior image by Trasmed - Grimaldi, the CIUDAD DE MAHON has been the object of interventions in the passenger area.
The roof terraces have been renovated, all the woodwork and seats in the cafeteria and bar area have been restored, as well as improvements to the seating areas. The children's area has been completely renovated and the common bathrooms and self-service have been improved, among many other improvements.
Significant remodeling and improvement work has been carried out in the pool area and showers, as well as the outdoor kennels and the kennel.
CIUDAD DE MAHON is 143 meters long and reaches a maximum speed of 24.5 knots. She has 56 cabins and 486 seats, with a total capacity for 972 passengers and 300 cars.
