Trasmed transports 500,000 passengers and 140,000 vehicles in its first year of life
Trasmed, a shipping company belonging to the Grimaldi Group, celebrates its first anniversary on 20 July, with a very positive balance. Thus, after the acquisition last year of the assets of Armas Trasmediterránea, Trasmed has been the shipping company chosen by more than 500,000 passengers and has transported more than 140,000 ro-ro units.
Trasmed currently has six ships (CIUDAD DE BARCELONA, CIUDAD DE PALMA, CIUDAD DE GRENADA, CIUDAD DE MAHON, CIUDAD DE ALCUDIA and the GUBAL TRADER) that operate the routes between the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands: from Barcelona and Valencia to Mahón (Menorca) , Palma de Mallorca and Alcudia and Ibiza. It should be remembered that the ship CIUDAD DE BARCELONA is currently in shipyards undergoing improvement work and that its incorporation into the fleet is very close.
For the CEO of Trasmed, Ettore Morace, the evolution of the market in this first year of the company's life has been "better than expected" since "we have experienced a complicated year, in which we have started a new company, but not from scratch, but with the inertia that was carried over from the previous organization. From the beginning we have received the trust of our customers, who have opted for continuity, and we want to thank them", Morace highlighted.
For his part, Miguel Pardo, commercial director of Trasmed, assures that “in such a short time we have managed to greatly improve the services to our clients and we have carried out a significant investment in the ships. In addition, we have solved the great problem of transporting dangerous goods to the islands and we have managed to introduce the new Trasmed brand on the market very well," says Pardo.
Regarding the improvements carried out by the Grimaldi Group in Trasmed, it should be noted that the investment has been close to 30 million euros, "to improve passenger service and the environmental footprint", says Ettore Morace.
“Four of the five passenger ships have already passed through the shipyard. In addition, we have incorporated a ship dedicated to the exclusive transport of dangerous goods, which are essential for the inhabitants of the Balearic Islands; oxygen, CO2, butane, propane, natural gas, including fireworks or explosives. This allows us to guarantee the service all year round”, says the CEO of Trasmed.
Significant improvements have also been made on land, such as at the Port of Valencia terminal, where the company is based. Thus, special parking lots for bicycles have been located, in the company's commitment to sustainability. In addition, the ticket sales and on-board sales systems have been considerably improved”, says Miguel Pardo, commercial director of Trasmed.
For Miguel Pardo, a company like Grimaldi, which is a world leader in the transport of ro-ro, with more than 130 ships owned and more than 70 years of experience, "since 1996, more than twenty years ago, Grimaldi decided to invest in Spain and began to connect it with Italy, first with Ro-Ro and then also with passenger service. Thus, the purchase of Trasmediterránea has been one of Grimaldi's expansion projects and when the opportunity arose to do so, it has not been missed".
"Grupo Grimaldi's policy has always been to manage shipping companies in the countries where it operates; this is the case of Finnlines in Finland, Minoan in Greece, Malta Motorways in Malta and Trasmed in Spain. Trasmed is a Spanish company and our ships all have a Spanish flag," says Pardo.
Regarding sustainability and care for the environment, Ettore Morace asserts that "we are a public service and our duty is to listen to the needs of society and provide the solutions that best adapt to these demands. Today, environmental sensitivity it is widely spread throughout society. Our commitment and that of the Grimaldi group to the environment and sustainability are absolute".
In this sense, Grupo Grimaldi has a program of new constructions for all the companies of the Group that it stores under its brand, in which the latest technological advances are always introduced.
"To cite the three most important, highlight the air lubrication system of the hull to reduce consumption in navigation; zero emissions in port thanks to battery systems that are charged during navigation and with solar panels, and, finally, the system of cleaning microplastics from seawater with special pumps and filters", confirms Morace.
This microplastic cleaning system has been patented by Grupo Grimald
