30th anniversary Eckerö Line: Turnover increased by 16%, milestone of two million passengers reached in 2023
FinanceEckerö Line published information on its financial development in 2023. The company's turnover was EUR 140 million, an increase of 16% from 2022. The year was also successful by other measures. Eckerö Line's passenger volume passed the milestone of two million passengers for the first time last year. Freight operations' market share also increased. 60% of the freight that Eckerö Line transports already goes via the North Sea port, which reduces congestion in the center of Helsinki and Tallinn.
"We managed to increase both our turnover, our passenger volume and our freight operations in 2023. Our thanks for this go to our customers, who show their appreciation for the quality of the service we offer. I would also like to thank our entire staff for their commitment. It is a great honor that Eckerö Line has once again been ranked among the ten best companies in the Great Place to Work survey in the category large companies", comments the CEO of Eckerö Line Taru Keronen.
As the operations take place in the Baltic Sea, environmental responsibility and sustainable shipping are a prerequisite for Eckerö Line's operations. In its sustainability goals, the company has committed to, among other things, reducing the amount of carbon dioxide emissions and supporting the protection of and research on the Baltic Sea. Purely concrete measures can be seen, for example, at FINLANDIA, which at the beginning of 2024 underwent several major changes to reduce fuel consumption and climate emissions. The ship received new rudders and new propeller blades and with the help of these conversion works, among other things, the targeted emission reduction of 6% has already been achieved.
In 30 years, Eckerö Line has grown into a significant player in the Baltic Sea
This year, Eckerö Line celebrates its 30th anniversary in the Baltic Sea. "We are proud and happy that we have been able to serve both Finns and Estonians for three decades. It has been a privilege to unite these two countries, their people and freight traffic," Keronen rejoices.
The company has grown into a significant player in passenger and freight traffic on the Baltic Sea. Eckerö Line began service on the Helsinki-Tallinn route in 1994. Right from the start, operations have been carried out under the Finnish flag. At first the company went by the name Eestin Linjat, but in 1997 the name was changed to Eckerö Line.
Eckerö Line is celebrating its 30th anniversary by, among other things, arranging special party cruises on Fridays in the autumn, the Årtiondenas fester. These cruises offer passengers an opportunity to enjoy popular artists from Eckerö Line's various decades, starting from the 90s. More information about these Decades parties, artists, timetables and ticket raffles will be published later.
"Growth is not possible without satisfied customers. Finnish travelers voted Eckerö Line first in a survey that measured the customer satisfaction of Finnish passengers on the route between Finland and Estonia.* We would like to thank our customers and staff for three decades. We will continue to invest in high-quality and pleasant sea voyages and promote sustainable and responsible shipping", summarizes Keronen.
* The result is part of EPSI Rating's industry studies in ship traffic. The study mapped customer experience and customer satisfaction at shipping companies operating between Finland and Estonia as well as Finland and Sweden (including Åland).
Eckerö Line serve between Helsinki and Tallinn with the ro-pax FINLANDIA and between Vuosaari and Muuga with the cargo ship FINBO CARGO.
