Baleària's hybrid electric H2 Ready ferry CAP DE BARBARIA reduces CO2 emissions by 33%
FerryBaleària 's hybrid electric H2 Ready ferry CAP DE BARBARIA, which has been operating since last May between Ibiza and Formentera, has reduced CO2 emissions by 33% compared to POSIDONIA, the ferry it replaced. This means that around 1,300 tonnes of CO2 will be reduced annually compared to the ship that operated before.
Thanks to its electric propulsion, during all phases of approach, manoeuvring, mooring and stay in the ports of Ibiza and Formentera, CAP DE BARBARIA does not emit polluting gases into the atmosphere.
With capacity for 390 passengers, the upper deck has a chill out area with designer sofas and hammocks, with a large bar in the centre. During the summer, music sessions with DJs and cocktail service have been held in this space. The CAP DE BARBARIA has an elevator between the passage and garage areas, for the comfort of passengers and has an indoor cafeteria and a children's area to liven up the journey for the little ones.
CAP DE BARBARIA is 82 metres long and 15.5 metres wide and sails up to 14 knots. It can transport up to 240 lane metres of cargo (approximately 14 trucks). The double-ended design and a 360-degree azimuthal electric propulsion allow great agility in loading and unloading operations and manoeuvres.
The financing of the ship has included the participation of the Next Generation Funds of the European Union, within the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism (MRR).
