Keel-laying ceremony for Viking’s sixth ship from Fincantieri
CruiseYesterday (18 October) the keel-laying ceremony was held for the sixth of the eight cruise ships Viking Ocean Cruises ordered from Fincantieri. The ceremony took place at the shipyard in Ancona for the ship with a scheduled delivery in 2019.
As her sister ships, she will be placed in the small cruise ship segment with a gross tonnage of about 47,800, 473 cabins with accommodation for 946 passengers, and a total capacity of over 1,400 people including the crew.
VIKING STAR was the first ship in the series to be delivered in March 2015, followed by VIKING SEA, VIKING SKY and VIKING SUN which were delivered by Fincantieri's Ancona shipyard in 2016 and 2017. VIKING ORION, the fifth unit, will be delivered in 2018, and the last three units have delivery dates in 2019, 2021 and 2022.
