Sea Lines signs an agreement with DP World to operate at the new Constanta ro-ro terminal
Black Sea ferry operator Sea Lines has signed an agreement with DP World, the world’s third-largest port operator. This partnership will see Sea Lines launch operations from Romania's Constanta Port to Turkey's strategic Karasu Port. The Åland Island-based ferry company plans to run a daily passenger and freight service along this route, establishing a crucial trade corridor that links Turkey with Central Europe.
This year, Sea Lines is making a multi-million-euro investment in the Constanta-Karasu route with two ferries, which will accommodate both passengers and freight. The first of these vessels, the former URD of Stena, is set to embark on its maiden journey in July 2024, marking a significant milestone in enhancing connectivity and trade between Romania and Turkey.
DP World, working collaboratively with Sea Lines, has invested in the new ro-ro terminal in Constanta, Romania. This state-of-the-art facility represents a significant investment aimed at boosting trade and transportation efficiency in the region. The terminal is expected to enhance the port's capacity to handle ro-ro cargo, streamline operations, and strengthen Constanta's position as a key logistics hub in Central Europe.
Joe Lindblom, CEO of Sea Lines says,
"Our business on the Romania-Turkey route will be a vital connection for passenger and freight transport across the Black Sea. With the upcoming introduction of our ferries, this route represents a unique opportunity for Sea Lines to offer our passenger and freight customers a more predictable, quicker, and sustainable transport between Turkey and Romania for further transportation to/from Central Europe and will be a key milestone in our Black Sea journey."
"This agreement reenforces our long-term commitment to DP World and further strengthens our partnership. Constanta is an important hub for our Black Sea business, and we aim to develop our operations here year-on-year. We're excited for the future of the route and to build on the terminal's current success," Joe Lindblom adds.
Cosmin Carstea, Chief Executive Officer at DP World Constanta, says,
"We're thrilled to solidify our long-term partnership with Sea Lines after many successful years of collaboration. This agreement not only reinforces our commitment to enhancing and maintaining top-tier services across the Black Sea but also highlights our significant investment in our Constanta operations. We are confident this route will deliver exceptional results and remain a vital corridor for commerce and travel for decades to come."
