Stena Line expects more Swedish and Danish travellers across the Kattegat in 2024

FerryStena Line reports on a rising booking situation from Swedish and Danish travellers for the period January to April 2024. On the company's two lines between Denmark and Sweden, 26% more Swedes and 28% more Danes are expected to travel in the coming quarters, compared to this year. To meet the increasing demand, Stena Line is now developing its booking system to improve the customer journey from start to finish.

Inflation and a historically low exchange rate for the Swedish krona have meant fully booked ferries from Denmark to Sweden in 2023, when many Danes took the opportunity to go over for travel experiences and shopping. Preliminary figures from the Agency for Growth show that the influx of Danish guests in 2023 has been so great that the number of Danish guest nights in Sweden has increased by 26% compared to 2019.

In November, Stena Line had 25% more Danish travellers compared to last year, and Stena Line already notices a great interest in traveling across the Kattegat in 2024. But it is not only the Danes who have a growing interest in traveling. For the period January to April 2024, the ferry company reports an increase in the number of Swedish bookings by 26% and an increase in the number of Danish bookings by 28% compared to the same period this year.

Stena Line hopes to maintain the positive development of Swedish and Danish bookings throughout 2024, and the ferry company is working to improve the customer journey from start to finish by developing the booking system.

"As neighbouring countries, Sweden and Denmark are important to each other's economies, so we are also working to improve our customer journey and to make it even easier to travel between the countries. 2023 has been a strong year for Danish bookings, and it is very positive that we can see the trend continue into 2024. In addition, we can see that more and more Swedes have started to book again, despite the exchange rate of the krona. Danish Jutland is a fantastic destination, with charming resorts and lots to experience. With a better and more flexible booking process, we hope to capture even more Swedish guests who want to travel to Denmark next year," says Ulf Staff, Travel Commercial Manager at Stena Line.

The update of the ferry company's booking system aims to create a more tailored booking experience as well as an improved user experience for the growing number of travellers who book via their mobile phone. The new digital venture will simplify the process of making and managing bookings, as well as making any additions afterwards.

Stena Line currently operates two ferry routes between Sweden and Denmark, from Gothenburg to Fredrikshamn and between Halmstad and Grenå. All ferries on the lines have restaurants, playgrounds and shops on board, and on both routes travellers have the option of bringing their own car.
