Torghatten won its first ferry contract in Sweden
Torghatten has won its first ferry contact in Sweden. Torghatten will operate the Strömstad-Koster connection from December 2025, and two new electric ferries will be built.
The traffic company Västtrafik announced that Torghatten AB has won the tender for Strömstad-Koster, which has a duration of 15 years. Torghatten will build two new electric ferries to operate the connection, thus further expanding its green fleet.
This will be the first ordinary connection Torghatten operates in Sweden.
- This is a fantastic day for us at Torghatten and Nordic Ferry Infrastructure! We have been working for some time to gain a foothold in Sweden, and Strömstad-Koster will be the starting point for us, says managing director of Torghatten AB, Stein Andre Hergistad-Olsen.
In connection with the new contract, Torghatten will build two new electric ferries, both with a capacity of 248 people. These ferries are being built for 100 percent electric operation.
- In Norway, the ferry industry has taken great strides in green transition, and as Norway's largest ferry company, we have solid expertise in electric ferries and low-emission technology. We are very much looking forward to offering passengers brand new, climate-friendly ferries between Strömstad and Koster, says Herigstad-Olsen.
In addition to the new contract for Stömstad-Koster, Torghatten operates the autonomous city ferry ESTELLE in Stockholm. Torghatten wants to establish itself as a solid ferry operator in Sweden.
