Trident BMC to equip BIRKA GOTLAND with shore power
Trident BMC will equip Gotlandsbolaget’s and Viking Line’s BIRKA GOTLAND with Shore Power. The High Voltage Shore Connection HVSC on BIRKA GOTLAND is designed for 3,700kVA of power and adheres to the IEC 80005-1 standards.
Trident BMC is leading this project, offering a comprehensive solution encompassing structural and electrical aspects. This includes constructing new spaces for electrical equipment and installing a hatch for the feeding shore power cable.
Electrical upgrades involve installing an intake box, a high-voltage switchboard, a water-cooled transformer, and a control panel. Trident BMC are also modifying the main switchboard and existing systems for seamless integration.
The connect and disconnect procedures are done directly from the vessel, and then the system's automation ensures a smooth transition to shore power. A remote-operated harbor crane with the feeding cable is operated from the intake room, and when the cable is connected, their control panel manages the communication between the shore and ship and controls the high-voltage breakers. This integration allows for a smooth shift to shore power, reducing CO2 emissions, noise pollution, and running hours on ship generators.
Structural and cable work begins in Stockholm this February, with electrical installations and commissioning set for spring when BIRKA GOTLAND is in service.
