REGENT entered agreement with FRS for its all-electric seagliders
REGENT, developer of the revolutionary all-electric seaglider, announced that German based worldwide ferry operator FRS, has entered into an agreement to add REGENT seagliders to its fleet.
Seagliders provide harbor-to-harbor, over-water transportation at a fraction of the cost, noise, and emissions of existing regional transportation modes such as aircraft and ferries. The German based FRS will focus the initial seaglider service in its domestic and international operations.
FERRY ROKKO has entered service

Miyazaki Car Ferry's new ro-pax, FERRY ROKKO entered service on the Kobe-Miyazaki route on 4 October 2022 as scheduled. FERRY ROKKO is a sister ship of FERRY TAKACHIHO, which entered service on the same route in April 2022.
Both ferries measure about 194 m in length, 27.6 m beam, 6.7 m draft, with a gross tonnage of about 14,200. They run at the service speed of 23.1knots with two JFE-S.E.M.T PIELSTICK 12PC2-6B diesel engines (8,570kW x 2) with twin screw.
Steel cut marks the first major build milestone for CMAL’s Islay Ferries
The construction of two new ferries for Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL) is officially underway after the first piece of steel was cut at Cemre Marin Endustri shipyard in Turkey.
The new 94.8-metre, vehicle passenger ferries will each have capacity for up to 450 passengers and 100 cars or 14 commercial vehicles, providing a combined 40% increase in vehicle and freight capacity on the Islay routes and improving the overall resilience of the wider fleet.
Holland Shipyards Group signed a contract with Swedish Trafikverket for four autonomous electric ferries
Holland Shipyards Group signed a contract with Trafikverket Sweden for the delivery of two plus two autonomous all-electric ferries. The ferries will sail according to autonomy level 2 and will be controlled from the remote control center based in Stockholm.
The signed contract includes the delivery of two ferries with four automooring facilities and two charging stations, a simulator facility and a remote control center. The tender covers the entire procurement: four ferries, eight automooring facilities, four charging stations and more.
IOMSPC buys ro-ro ARROW from Seatruck Ferries for EUR 9 million

The Isle of Man Steam Packet Co (IOMSPC) has exercised its option to buy the ro-ro ARROW from another UK ferry operator, Heysham-based Irish Sea freight specialist Seatruck Ferries for EUR 9 million.
GOTLAND HYDROCAT - The world’s first large-scale hydrogen powered catamaran
Gotlandsbolaget launched its GOTLAND HYDROCAT ferry concept, the world’s first large-scale, high-speed catamaran powered by fossil free hydrogen. This the second vessel in the Horizon Series – Gotland Company’s concept for next generation vessels.
The Horizon series of high-speed passenger and cargo vessels was launched as a concept in 2021, with GOTLAND HORIZON leading the way. Both GOTLAND HYDROCAT and GOTLAND HORIZON have been developed with the purpose of minimizing emissions from shipping. The two concept models will be able to offer even faster, more flexible and more sustainable crossings.
ABB and Incat sign LOI to develop lightweight hybrid-electric ferry
ABB and Incat Tasmania will explore building an electric ferry with hybrid-electric propulsion which could transition to battery power as shore charging becomes available. In a groundbreaking collaboration between the two companies, the announcement paves the way for ABB to supply zero-emission power and propulsion solutions and evaluate a future commercial arrangement for the 148-meter long ferry and similar vessels.
A new generation of ferries for Hong Kong passengers to be classed by Bureau Veritas

Bureau Veritas announces the classification of nine passenger ferries that will transport over 5 million passengers annually on three routes between Hong Kong and outlying islands Lamma Island, Peng Chau, and Hei Ling Chau.
The nine high-speed craft (HSC) will measure between 35 and 40 meters; eight vessels will be in full carbon fibre composite and one unit will be in full aluminium.
Estonia state will not use the buyout option for TS Laevad ferries
According to the public service agreement for passenger transport on the Rohuküla-Heltermaa and Virtsu-Kuivastu ferry lines concluded between the Republic of Estonia and AS Tallinna Sadam's subsidiaries TS Laevad OÜ and OÜ TS Shipping, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications informed that the state as the customer of the transport will not use the option to buy out the ferries specified in clause 29 of the contract. According to the contract, the state had the right to buy out one to four ferries owned by TS Laevad OÜ built for the purpose of the contract at a fixed price at the end of the contract period, by notifying of the exercise of the option no later than 30.09.2022.
Carnival Corporation & plc Provides Third Quarter 2022 Business Update
U.S. GAAP net loss of USD 770 million and adjusted net loss of $688 million for the third quarter of 2022.
Adjusted EBITDA for the third quarter of 2022 was over USD 300 million, turning positive for the first time since the resumption of guest cruise operations and marking a significant milestone.
Revenue increased by nearly 80% in the third quarter of 2022 compared to second quarter 2022, reflecting continued sequential improvement.
AS Tallinna Sadam (Port of Tallinn) operational volumes for 2022 Q3 and 9 months
In 2022 Q3, 4.4 million tonnes of cargo and 2.5 million passengers passed through the harbours of Tallinna Sadam. Compared to the same period of previous year, the number of passengers increased by 87% i.e. by 1.2 million passengers whereas the cargo volume decreased by 33%. At the same time, the number of vessel calls was relatively stable decreasing only by 4% to 1,936 calls. The number of passengers and vehicles served between the Estonian mainland and the main islands stayed at the same level as in the previous year.
AS Tallink Grupp Statistics for September and the Third Quarter of the Year
In September 2022 AS Tallink Grupp transported 392,491 passengers, which is an 26.5% increase compared to September 2021. The number of cargo units increased by 0.6% to 34,169 units and the number of passenger vehicles decreased by 4.7% to 61,603 units in the same comparison.
Cruise Baltic makes it easier to choose onshore power supply in the Baltic Sea region
As another step toward a greener cruise industry, Cruise Baltic presents an overview of onshore power supply in the Baltic Sea region. With the overview, it is now easier for cruise lines to make itineraries taking into consideration the available onshore power supply in the Baltic ports.
The technology group Wärtsilä will supply a BioLNG plant in Tervete, Latvia. The order was placed by AS Agrofirma Tervete, who will utilise the plant to upgrade, polish, and liquefy biogas from agricultural waste into bioLNG. The order was included in Wärtsilä’s order intake in September 2022.

Höegh Autoliners joins First Movers Coalition and commits to using green fuels already by 2030
Höegh Autoliners has joined the First Movers Coalition (FMC) to send a strong market demand signal for the emerging technologies essential for a net-zero transition. Höegh Autoliners has committed to running at least 5 % of their deep sea operations on either green ammonia or green methanol by 2030.
