Finnlines’ financial review January–March 2024

The Finnlines Group’s revenue in January–March 2024 amounted to EUR 162.2 (163.1 in 2023) million. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation, EBITDA, amounted to EUR 30.1 (45.5) million.
During the reporting period Finnlines transported 184,000 cargo units, 27,000 cars, and 285,000 tons of non-unitised freight. In total, 153,000 passengers travelled.

DFDS’ revenues were up by 11% to DKK 7.0bn, EBIT reduced 45% to DKK 200m. Total freight volumes in April 2024 were 13.9% above 2023 and up 10.1% adjusted for the addition of Strait of Gibraltar routes in 2024 and closure of the Calais-Tilbury route in 2023. The number of passengers in April 2024 were 24.5% above 2023 and down 7.6% adjusted for addition of the Strait of Gibraltar routes.
Remontowa Shipbuilding started production of hybrid double-ender for Torghatten Nord
At Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A., the construction of a 63.65-metre hybrid passenger-car ferry ordered by Norwegian shipowner Torghatten Nord AS began on 8 May 2024 with the first steel cutting.

Gasum successfully conducted first ship-to-ship LNG bunker deliveries in Lübeck-Travemünde
On 29 and 30 April 2024, Gasum successfully conducted its first ship-to-ship LNG bunker deliveries in Travemünde, Germany. A total of 700mt was supplied by the LNG Bunker vessel CORALIUS to the sister vessels BALTIC ENABLER and BOTNIA ENABLER, owned by Wallenius Sol AB.
Torghatten won its first ferry contract in Sweden
Torghatten has won its first ferry contact in Sweden. Torghatten will operate the Strömstad-Koster connection from December 2025, and two new electric ferries will be built.
The traffic company Västtrafik announced that Torghatten AB has won the tender for Strömstad-Koster, which has a duration of 15 years. Torghatten will build two new electric ferries to operate the connection, thus further expanding its green fleet.
Stena Line to increase cargo capacity by 30% on STENA FORERUNNER and STENA FORETELLER
On behalf of Stena Line, Stena RoRo has signed a conversion contract with China Merchants Jinling (Weihai) Shipyard for the installation of an additional cargo deck, increased thruster capacity and preparations for shore power onboard STENA FORERUNNER and STENA FORETELLER. The cargo capacity will increase by 30% and the vessels will after conversion be ready to meet future efficiency requirements. The conversion for both vessels will be finalised during 2025.
Finnlines adopts graphene-based hard foul release hull coating across its ro-ro and ro-pax fleet
Finnlines, in partnership with GIT Coatings, is accelerating its decarbonization efforts by adopting XGIT-FUEL, a graphene-based hard foul release hull coating, across its ro-ro and ro-pax fleets. Starting with their first vessel in 2022, Finnlines has already applied this hull coating to four vessels as part of a recently signed fleet agreement, reducing fuel consumption and emissions by around 7% compared to previously used coating.
A third Öresundslinjen ferry to become fully electric

After electrifying the ferries TYCHO BRAHE and AURORA, it is now time for the ferry HAMLET to be converted to full electrical operation, charged with electricity from wind, water and solar energy. The battery system is tailored for a minimum operational lifespan of 10 years without requiring battery replacement. Furthermore, the battery can be recharged in both ports in as little as 11 minutes on average.
First shipment for Lakeway Link’s new Gdynia-Södertälje ro-ro service starts 21 May
On 21 May, Lakeway Link will start its new ro-ro service between Gdynia and Södertälje, with three weekly departures in each direction. Lakeway Link is the only company offering scheduled ro-ro transport for trailers and high and heavy cargo between Gdynia and Södertälje.
To deploy this service, Lakeway Link acquired MIRAMAR EXPRESS from the FRS Group, now renamed LAKEWAY EXPRESS. The ro-ro vessel is sailing under Swedish flag and will have its home port in Västerås, where Lakeway Link has its headquarters.
Meyer Turku Group's turnover increased, profitability expected to improve with ships under construction
Meyer Turku Group's result for 2023 has been published. The company's turnover was EUR 1.43 billion, which means a growth of 10.6% compared to the previous year. Both the turnover and the number of personnel have been growing for three consecutive years. The loss for the financial year 2023 was EUR 103.8 million (i.e. -7.2% of the turnover).
