All three vessels. The newbuild closest
Fjord1 expands its fleet with purchase of two high-speed vessels and ordering of a newbuild
High-speedThe new generation of high-speed ferries for the city boat routes in Bergen has been ordered. Fjord1 has entered into an agreement with Kystekspressen for the purchase of the 2014-built TERNINGEN and TYRHAUG. In addition, the company has signed a contract with Brødrene Aa for the delivery of a newbuilding.
Fjord1 will operate the city boat routes Knarvik-Frekhaug-Strandkaien (Nordhordlandsruta) and Kleppestø-Strandkaien (Askøyruta) for 15 years, from 2025 - 2040. Before start-up, Fjord1 will ensure the development of charging stations at Knarvik and Askøy.
On the Askøyruta route, the offer will be improved with TERNINGEN and TYRHAUG, compared to the current one. The two will be converted to have electric propulsion and each has a capacity for 275 people.
The newbuild, destined for the Nordhordland route will be of “low-emission” and have a capacity for 199 people on board.
Director of operations in Fjord1, Andrè Høyset, is very happy to contribute to Vestland county council's major environmental initiative:
- With Fjord1's new city boats, this is a strong contribution to the major environmental investment, something we are of course very proud of. We have a long history with fast ferries and are looking forward to putting the first zero-emission fast ferries into operation in Vestland county. This is a historic milestone with the transition to a renewable energy source also on fast ferries. We thank the county council for the trust and look forward to an exciting construction period ahead, both with charging stations, newbuildings and conversions.
Vestland County Council has high ambitions in its work on climate change, and the competence body Skyss has worked for several years on the change of high-speed ferries.
- We are very much looking forward to Skyss being able to deliver a better offer that is also based on strong environmental requirements, says county mayor Jon Askeland and continues:
- Vestland has taken on a green leadership jersey in this work, and we are happy that business is delivering. What is now happening here in the west is also attracting interest elsewhere, both at home and abroad.
