HD Hyundai Mipo delivers CHAUMINE to CLdN
Ro-roHD Hyundai Mipo has successfully delivered the first hybrid propulsion ro-ro ship in Korea, the 235-metre-long and 8,000-lanemetre-capacity CHAUMINE, to Luxembourg's CLdN.
CHAUMINE is a 25,000-dwt twin-screw ro-ro ship with a hybrid propulsion system that uses a diesel engine and an electric battery as power sources. The ship is 234 metres long, 35 metres wide, and 33.25 metres high. It has eight cargo decks, including three levels of hoistable car decks, and can transport 510 trailers and 920 passenger cars simultaneously.
In particular, this ship features a twin-shaft propulsion system that distributes thrust through two propellers to increase fuel efficiency, and a shaft generator that enables self-propulsion (PTH, Power Take Home) in conjunction with a 2.72 MWh battery pack.
In addition, various eco-friendly technologies have been applied, including a nitrogen oxide reduction device (Selective Catalytic Reduction), an exhaust gas recirculation system (Eco Exhaust Gas Recirculation) that prevents unburned greenhouse gases (methane) from being emitted into the atmosphere, and an alternative marine power supply device that reduces the ship's own air pollutant emissions by receiving electricity from an onshore power plant when docked at a port.
Moreover, this ship is equipped with HiNAS SVM and HiNAS Navigation assistance systems from Avicus, an HD Hyundai ship autonomous navigation specialist.
The HiNAS SVM provides a 360-degree view around the ship by utilising multiple cameras, while the HiNAS Navigation improves forward situational awareness by linking with various navigational aids to support more precise navigation and effectively prevent collision risks.
CHAUMINE will be followed by sister ship LEONINE later this year.
Meanwhile, HD Hyundai Mipo has built 77 car carriers, the largest number among domestic shipbuilders, by delivering 33 PCTCs, 19 ro-ros, and 25 con-ro ships since 2009.
