Sea-Cargo to future-proof MISIDA and MISANA with energy optimisation technologies
Ro-roThe two sister ships, MISIDA and MISANA, acquired by Sea-Cargo from Godby Shipping, will be upgraded in the summer of 2025 with a range of technologies estimated to reduce fossil fuel consumption by up to 50%.
To be installed:
- Three new rotor sails from Norsepower. (At the end of 2020, Sea-Cargo’s SC CONNECTOR was fitted with two 35m tiltable rotor sails as well)
- New optimised propellers from Kongsberg, designed for a lower 14-knot speed to improve fuel efficiency.
- NOx scrubber by PureteQ.
- Upgrades to machinery and control systems from Wärtsilä, including advanced energy-saving features and bridge equipment to compensate for blind sectors.
- Covered weather deck to increase under-deck capacity.
- 1,600 m² solar panels installed on the weather deck cover.
- Battery and frequency converter systems, featuring an energy pack with shore power and peak shaving.
- New power management system from Smart Automation, integrating the rotor sail and battery technology for optimal energy efficiency.
New names: TRANS HAV and TRANS SOL
MISIDA and MISANA will be renamed TRANS HAV and TRANS SOL to honour the company’s rich maritime heritage, reflecting the Seatrans group’s legacy and commitment to sustainable innovation. The names are historical Seatrans names used on the first liner coastal vessels, operating between Northern Norway, Oslo, and Drammen in the 1970s. These ships had ro-ro ramps and carried cars between the North and East. MISIDA and MISANA have been part of the Sea-Cargo system, sailing from the west coast of Norway to the Continent since 2020, and will continue this service after the rebuild, which is taking place at the Western Shipyard in Klaipeda in Q2 and Q3 this year. The new ship designs are by Marine Design & Consulting, with project engineering by Western Baltic Engineering and Naval Tec.
