Heavy fire suffered Norwegian ferry while docked
FerryThe 1982-built Norwegian ferry STRAND suffered serious damages due to heavy fire on Saturday morning while docked for service at LOS Marine at the island of Bømlo, Norway. 453 people had to be evacuated, and a warning message was sent out to the 1300 residents in the surrounding area.
The fire was supposedly started in the saloon due to unknown reasons, and then spread quickly. It took 20 hours after the fire started until it was finally extinguished, involving some 40 fire fighters. Fortunately no one was injured, but the ferry is now looking at probably never going in service again due to the severity of the damages and age of the ferry.
