Baleària endorses its commitment to Morocco after 20 years offering reliable and quality maritime connections
Baleària endorsed its commitment to Morocco after 20 years operating the connection. The company brought together more than 200 people from the maritime and economic sectors at an event in Tangier where the company's president and general manager analysed the current context and shared the company's future plans in Morocco.
Baleària celebrated the reopening of the borders with Spain after two years and took advantage of the meeting to thank the trust of its clients, travel agencies, and different Moroccan institutions and entities involved in its commercial activity. In addition, he conveyed a message of support and unity to continue working together to improve maritime connections, as well as to facilitate trade relations between the two countries.
Baleària announced that it will close the year with almost 700,000 passengers and around 100,000 trucks transported on the three routes it operates with Morocco (Tangier-Algeciras, Nador-Almería and Nador-Sète).
The president of Baleària, Adolfo Utor, highlighted the almost twenty years of activity of the shipping company in Morocco, emphasizing the company's commitment to a reliable and quality maritime transport service. "Our commitment to Morocco has been firm throughout these two decades and will continue to be so in the future. We will continue to evolve and add more value through innovation, sustainability and fleet renewal". Utor pointed out that the shipping company wants to count on "the complicity of the authorities" because it is prepared to break new ground: "There is a need for ships that provide greater competitiveness and that are more respectful of the environment".
The general manager of the shipping company, Georges Bassoul, also spoke at the event, who stressed the ability to adapt services to customer needs and analyzed the results of the latest Operation Crossing the Strait. Bassoul pointed out that this period usually accounts for 65% of the annual traffic on Moroccan routes and this year has experienced a growth of 12% in passengers compared to the last edition, in 2019. Bassoul explained that Baleària wants to reinforce Operation Crossing the Strait, maintaining a quality service: "Our goal is to offer different routes with different durations, with the best service both in port and on board for Moroccans living abroad". Regarding the transport of goods, he highlighted "the reliability, demand, proactivity and safety" offered by Baleària,
The director of the port of Tanger Med, Hassan Abkari, also spoke at the event, noting that "Baleària's projects can contribute to the logistical development of the port". He also highlighted the shipping company's commitment to passengers and cargo customers during the pandemic.
Baleària has been operating in Morocco since 2003 with the opening of its first international route between Tangier and Algeciras. In 2017, it launched a second connection, between Almería and Nador, in the Alboran Sea, and in 2020 it began operating with a night ferry to connect Nador with Sète, in the south of France. Throughout these almost two decades, Baleària has transported nearly four and a half million passengers, a little over a million vehicles and half a million cargo trucks.
Finally, the president of Baleària, Adolfo Utor, recalled that the maritime company's involvement with Morocco "goes beyond pure economic activity", since "it also involves collaborating with local initiatives of a social, cultural and solidarity nature to through the Baleària Foundation".
