Molslinjen invests in Denmark
An increasing private market is now causing Molslinjen to seriously invest in the Danes' desire to holiday in Denmark. From Easter 2023, a high-speed ferry will be released at Bornholm and allow four-ferry operation on the Kattegat. Among other things, this will mean more departures from both Aarhus and Ebeltoft.
Four high-speed ferries on the Kattegat. This has been Molslinjen's plan since 2012, when the first large high-speed ferries were deployed. And from Easter 2023 the dream will come true. With the deployment of EXPRESS 5 on the Bornholm line's route between Rønne and Ystad, a fast ferry will be released on Bornholm.
"Danes are increasingly staying at home and taking holidays. Therefore, the private market is increasing right now, and we would like to support that growth by having four ferries in operation on the Kattegat", says Molslinjen's commercial director, Jesper Skovgaard.
The new ferry on the Kattegat will either be EXPRESS 1 or the fast ferry MAX. The decision on which ferry will remain on Bornholm awaits the upcoming elections to the Folketing and a decision in the new Ministry of Transport.
But no matter which ferry it is, it will result in far more departures between the parts of the country. Ebeltoft departures will increase from 294 in 2022 to 656 in 2023 or 123% in the period March to October. At the same time, capacity is freed up to Aarhus, which will be expanded from 8,430 departures in 2022 to 8,628 departures in 2023, or an increase of 2.3%.
"That gives up to 32 daily departures between Jutland and Zealand. In this way, we will be able to have 45-minute operation during the periods when many people want to sail along. It will increase flexibility, and travelers will know that the next ferry is just around the corner", explains Jesper Skovgaard.
Molslinjen was successful in putting four ferries on the Kattegat around Christmas before, but from Thursday 30 March 2023 it will be possible for the first time with four ferries in daily operation.
