The battery exchange solution SHIFTR will be used
Norled won new contracts-newbuilds to follow
Norled AS won the contract and will offer transport by fast ferries for the routes Trondheim – Kristiansund, Trondheim – Brekstad
and Trondheim - Vanvikan. The contract between AtB and Norled AS lasts until 24 April 2030 and with a four-year conditional option given the achievement of environmental targets and unilateral 1 year for AtB.
- We are proud and very satisfied that AtB together with Norled can offer a far better travel experience for passengers and with great environmental savings. Brand new, state-of-the-art vessels with plenty of space and large window surfaces will make the journey more comfortable, quiet and environmentally friendly, says Fuglem Tennås.
On the route Trondheim - Kristiansund (route 800), two completely new electric vessels are being introduced. Compared to today, the aim is to reduce Co2 emissions on the connection by up to 70 per cent. For the connection Trondheim - Brekstad (route 805) there will also be a new, electric vessel. Here, the emission reduction is up to 80 per cent compared to the current solution. During the start-up period, the connections will be operated by alternative vessels until the new boats are in place during 2024.
- Enova's role is to support those who are leading the way and emissions from the transport sector must decrease if we are to manage the transition to a low-emission society. Trøndelag county council is taking important steps here to establish an infrastructure for charging fast ferries on the Trondheim-Brekstad and Trondheim-Vanvikan routes, says Gunnel Fottland, marketing manager for sea transport at Enova.
On the route Trondheim – Vanvikan (route 810), the vessel TIDEVIND will be converted to battery hybrid operation. The association will thus have almost 100 per cent less CO2 emissions than today.
- We are very happy to win the tender with a forward-looking high-speed ferry concept that includes energy-efficient vessel design and our new battery exchange solution SHIFTR. The high-speed ferry concept will be able to reduce CO2 emissions by 15,000 tonnes annually compared to traditional diesel operation. We look forward to the collaboration with AtB to deliver sustainable and good travel experiences, says CEO of Norled, Heidi Wolden.
- Trøndelag County Council has for many years worked to facilitate a change in technology in the high-speed ferry market. We have done this in close cooperation with the Norwegian Environment Agency's climate rate scheme. We are pleased that Norled, Enova and AtB have now made this possible, says Konrad Pütz, director of transport in Trøndelag county municipality.
