Silverstream to deliver its air lubrication system to Grimaldi Group’s new 9,000 CEU capacity PCTC’s
Ro-roSilverstream announced that Grimaldi Group has chosen to install the Silverstream® System on five of its new PCTC’s which will be built at China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu), with the option for five more vessels in future. These will be Silverstream’s first PCTC installations of their air lubrication system.
The new Grimaldi car carriers will be equipped with a host of other efficiency solutions including innovative propulsion and optimised hull design, large lithium-ion batteries, solar panels and shore connection. They have also been designed to be converted to use ammonia as marine fuel in future.
The Silverstream® System is now operational on 12 of Grimaldi's vessels in service, plus two newbuild ro-ro's in its Eco Class fleet.
The Silverstream air lubrication system creates a uniform carpet of microbubbles that coats the full flat bottom of a vessel. As a result, frictional resistance is decreased, and 5-10% net fuel and emissions savings are reached.
