FRS Helgoline ends 2022 season with satisfaction
The high-speed catamaran HALUNDER JET have concluded its last trip to Helgoland for 2022. Given the circumstances, the shipping company can look back on a satisfactory season. There were various highlights over the course of the year, and the start of bookings for the 2023 season was announced at the same time.
This year, FRS Helgoline traveled from Hamburg and Cuxhaven to Helgoland with the high-speed catamaran HALUNDER JET until 31 October 2022. After the season had to be delayed for the last two years and had to start with many restrictions due to the pandemic, the first run could take place on 25 March in 2022.
The catamaran carried almost 165,000 passengers, which is satisfactory compared to the last two covid years, but could not match the passenger numbers of 2019. In 2021, a total of 142,000 passengers were transported to and from the island. FRS Helgoline Managing Director Tim Kunstmann says: "We are glad that we were able to carry out Heligoland traffic with almost no restrictions this year and thus bring numerous passengers to the offshore island of Heligoland".
Three highlights particularly stood out this season: On the one hand, the FRS Helgoline Music Cruise with Thees Uhlmann & Band took place in the North Sea Hall on Heligoland. After concerts with Fettes Brot and Johannes Oerding, this was the third event of this kind and will not have been the last. Planning for the event in 2023 is already underway. Furthermore, it was observed that the topic of renewable energies was very popular with passengers. The excursions to the offshore wind farm Meerwind Süd/Ost, which were carried out several times, were well booked and will be offered again next year. A heart project was this year's "Lange-Anna-Challenge", in which Heligoland's mayor Jörg Singer competed on an e-surfboard in a race against the high-speed catamaran. Even if the HALUNDER JET emerged as the winner of the race, the island of Helgoland was the big winner. The event enabled numerous donations to be collected for an innovative marine trash can, which has since been installed.
In the coming year 2023, the catamaran will sail daily from Hamburg and Cuxhaven to Heligoland from 24 March to 31 October.
