The route between the Canary Islands and Huelva by Baleària and Fred. Olsen increases its services to respond to the increase in demand
The Baleària and Fred. Olsen route, which connects the Canary Islands with the Peninsula, through the Huelva port of Palos de la Frontera (Huelva), reinforces its services starting this Saturday, 5 November, due to the increase in demand. The new service will be added to the two departures made by the MARIE CURIE ship to date, so carriers will have three weekly departures.
This new trip will be made with a ro-ro ship, destined exclusively for cargo transport, which will cover a new route departing from the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. and from Huelva on Saturdays at 8:00 a.m. the morning, connecting with the rest of the Archipelago through the fast ferries of the Canarian shipping company.
The service between the Islands and Huelva offered by the companies is characterized by having a comprehensive logistics system, which, thanks to its road transport model, makes it possible to dispose of the goods immediately upon arrival at its destination. Once the ship arrives at the port, the goods continue their journey to their final destination, without the need for the long collection times characteristic of container transport. This translates into a transit time of less than 40 hours, specifically 34 hours from the Peninsula to the Canary Islands, and 38 from the Canary Islands to the Peninsula, which is especially important for the logistics of perishable products.
In this line, the increase in demand from the Canary Islands to the Peninsula arises, as a result of several agreements with the Canarian fruit and vegetable sector, to which the rolling system benefits substantially. As a result of the contacts made at the Fruit Attraction fair, held at Ifema last month, an agreement has been reached with the Provincial Federation of Associations of Exporters of Horticultural Products of Las Palmas, by which the route increases by more exports of island tomatoes to different European countries increased by 200%, in addition to other products such as bananas. The new schedule especially benefits Canarian horticulturists, who, thanks to the in-vehicle system - much more agile and operational - allow the merchandise to be positioned in the European markets first thing on Monday morning.
On the other hand, the Christmas season presents forecasts of a significant increase in the transport of goods in the opposite direction, from the Peninsula to the Canary Islands, in which a 40% increase in the movement of goods is expected, both perishable and non-perishable products.
