The Grimaldi Group transports the new wagons of the Naples underground
The Grimaldi Group has been entrusted with the transportation of the new wagons that will enhance the Naples metro fleet. Just last night, the first six units arrived in the port of Naples on board the ro-ro vessel EUROCARGO ROMA, which had left from the Spanish port of Sagunto on 8 March.
The handling of the first wagons was carried out with the use of special platforms equipped with rails supplied by Multitrade, the freight forwarding company designated for the management of the project. In this as in future shipments, the wagons are divided into groups of three different units, with a width of 2.90 meters and a height of 3.59 to 3.80 meters. The length of the three types of wagons varies between 17.38 and 18.55 meters, and the weight of each ranges from 28 to 30 tons.
With a length of 190.30 meters and a width of 26.50 meters, the EUROCARGO ROMA has a gross tonnage of 32,645 tons and a cruising speed of approximately 22 knots. The ship flies the Italian flag and has a loading capacity of over 3,800 linear meters of rolling stock and 150 cars. Through the stern ramp it is possible to handle cargo units up to 120 tons in weight.
All 114 wagons, ordered to the Basque company CAF - Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles, will be transported from Spain on board Grimaldi vessels, as part of a project that will last until March 2022.
"Being chosen for such important and at the same time complex transport services always makes us proud", commented Guido Grimaldi, Corporate Short Sea Shipping Commercial Director of the Neapolitan shipowning group. "In this particular case, we are glad to put our expertise and efficiency at the service of a project that can significantly improve the infrastructure system and mobility in Naples, the city where our headquarters are located."
The Grimaldi Group operates a dense network of motorways of the sea between Italy and Spain for the transport of rolling freight (cars, vans, trucks, semitrailers, etc.) and passengers. The ports directly served are Cagliari, Civitavecchia, Livorno, Porto Torres, Salerno and Savona in Italy, and Barcelona, Sagunto and Valencia in Spain.
